Hopi Pottery / Large Jar by Burel Naha

$3,600

This beautiful large jar was made by award-winning Hopi pottery artist, Burel Naha.   Burel is the son of the famous Helen Naha (Featherwoman) and grandson of the famous and innovative pottery artist Paqua Naha (the first Frogwoman).  Many credit Paqua Naha with developing white ware pottery in the early 1950’s.  Burel credits his success to his mother for teaching him Hopi traditions and the old pottery making ways of their ancestors.  Burel makes exceptional handmade traditional Hopi pottery.  His earlier designs were inspired by, and very similar to, those of his famous mother; but the style he has now developed is uniquely his own, usually with large painted spiders and intricate web designs.  Burel Naha is often referred to as ‘Spider-man’.  He signs his pottery with a feather (as his mother did) and a Longhair Kachina hallmark.  Please watch the quick video!
