Camilio ‘Sunflower’ Tafoya Pottery with Sgraffito Bears

Potter Camilio ‘Sunfower’ Tafoya, father of Joseph Lonewolf, made this piece of miniature sgraffito Santa Clara Pueblo pottery depicting bear cubs playing in a tree.  The reintroduction of miniature pottery as fine art is attributed to Camilio ‘Sunflower’ Tafoya (brother of Margaret Tafoya).  The miniature pottery was made famous by Camilio Tafoya’s son, Joseph Lonewolf. Miniatures are now common in all Southwest Native American Indian pottery-producing areas.  However, the descendants of Camilio ‘Sunflower’ Tafoya likely make the most of any pottery family group.
